What I Do
UPDATE: On June 23, 2016, I was named Executive Director of DETCOG - the Deep East Texas Council of Governments. DETCOG, a political subdivision of the State of Texas, is a voluntary association of cities, counties, schools and other special districts in a 12-county region.
Our region inclues the counties of Angelina, Houston, Jasper, Nacogdohes, Newton, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity and Tyler.
DETCOG helps provide a number of important services that are best done on a regional basis, like 911 Emergency Dispatch, Homeland Security & Emergency Management, Aging Services, Housing Assistance, Economic Development, Disaster Recovery and more.
Prior to joining DETCOG, I served as County Relations Officer for the Texas Association of Counties (TAC). In this capacity I had the pleasure of visiting all 254 counties in Texas.
Before joining TAC in December of 2011, I was honored to serve as County Judge of Houston County, Texas. I will be forever grateful to the citizens of Houston County for giving me this opportunity. Without their support, other doors at TAC and DETCOG would not have opened for me.
I am also proud to have served on the Board of Trustees for the Crockett ISD from 1983 to 1994.
I was a radio broadcaster for 30+ years. Most of those years were at KIVY AM-FM Radio in Crockett, TX but I also spent several years as President and CEO of Nicol Broadcasting LLC which owned and operated KBHT-FM in Crockett, KLIS-FM in Palestine TX, and KMBV-FM and KWBC-AM in Navasota TX.
